Story of a Former Dishwasher, Now Owning a Large Company and Accumulating Wealth of IDR 1,700 Trillion

Dream - Many inspirational stories from people all over the world to ignite our spirits in living life. This inspirational story comes from Jensen Huang who became very wealthy thanks to the success of his company, Nvidia. This is a rapidly growing chip giant company. The reason is that Nvidia's AI chips are widely used by other companies. Therefore, Jensen Huang's company is one of the most influential in the world.

Considering his wealth now reaches Rp1,700 trillion, it turns out Jensen is not someone who comes from a wealthy family. He was born in Taiwan in 1963. Then, when he was 5 years old, he moved to Thailand. When he turned 9 years old, Jensen and his brother were transferred to Tacoma, United States, to live with their uncle. After that, their parents also followed to the US to accompany their children. Jensen's father really liked America. "My father had a desire to raise us in this extraordinary country," said Jensen from NY Post.

Jensen turned out to not attend prestigious educational institutions. In fact, he went to an educational institution filled with naughty children. Jensen even once got threatened with a knife by a child there and often cleaned the bathroom.

"I was often told to clean the toilet while at school," he said while giving a speech in front of Stanford University graduates. At the age of 15, he worked as a dishwasher at Denny's restaurant. This was Jensen's first job. "This is a good career choice. I recommend everyone to start their career in the restaurant business, as it teaches humility and hard work. I might be the best dishwasher at Denny's," he said.

After graduating from high school, Jensen Huang continued his studies at Oregon State University because of its affordable tuition fees. There, he fell in love and found his life partner, the only female electrical engineering student, Lori Mills. Now, Lori Mills has accompanied Huang's life journey for over 30 years. After graduating from college, Huang worked at a chip company. He also pursued further education and obtained a master's degree at Stanford for over eight years.

Then in 1993, Huang and his two colleagues, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, met at Denny's restaurant in South Buy. The three of them sketched out a plan to start their own company. With strong determination, they established Nvidia with a capital of USD 40,000. Nvidia then went public in 1999. They first created computer graphics chips and achieved great success from it.

Then in 2014, Jensen Huang successfully created a chip for artificial intelligence or AI. Now the AI era is booming, Nvidia is truly benefiting greatly from its AI chips that sell well in the market. Now Jensen owns 3.5 percent of Nvidia's shares. According to Forbes data, Jensen's wealth reached USD 107.2 billion or more than IDR 1,746 trillion. This wealth has increased rapidly, as his wealth was only recorded at USD 3 billion five years ago.

"If asked about success, Jensen will answer that everyone must experience suffering first. 'I think one of my biggest advantages is low expectations. Most Stanford graduates have very high expectations,' he said during a speech at Stanford."

According to him, it is very reasonable because graduating from a prestigious campus naturally makes everyone hope for more. But according to him, it can be a bad thing. "People with very high expectations have very low resilience, even though resilience is important for achieving success. I don't know how to teach you except I hope you experience suffering first to become more resilient," he said.
