The previous record was the purchase of YSL Beauté worth US$1.7 billion in 2008, according to data from Dealogic. Bettencourt Meyers' wealth is still below that of LVMH boss Bernard Arnault, the world's largest luxury goods maker. Bernard Arnault is the second richest person in the world according to the index, with a net worth of US$179 billion.
