"Dream - Generation Z has been pushing for consistent growth of digital banking in Indonesia in recent years. The value of digital banking transactions as of May 2024, as reported by Bank Indonesia, reached Rp5,570.49 trillion, growing by 10.82 percent (yoy)."
The research results from Populix titled "Study on Ecosystem Analysis and Perception towards Digital Banks in Indonesia" found that 60 percent of digital bank users come from the Gen Z group. The remaining 40 percent are millennials.
"The Main Factors Driving the Use of Digital Banks"
Three main factors that cause the use of digital banks in Indonesia to continue experiencing a growth trend originate from security, transaction convenience, to application usability.
More specifically, data security and transaction factors are a concern for 31 percent of respondents. Followed by flexibility in accessing applications (12%), complete application features (12%), and integration with other financial services (11%). Equally important is the factor of special promotions chosen by 10 percent of respondents as the features sought from digital banking applications.
"Digital Banking Preferences by Gen Z"
Still from a survey conducted by Populix, it is known that SeaBank is the most preferred by Gen Z with a market share of 57 percent. Followed by Bank Jago (36%), and Blu by BCA (26%). In the Jabodetabek area, respondents tend to use 2-3 digital banking applications to meet their daily needs.
"The main use of digital banks is for topping up e-wallets, interbank transfers, shopping on e-commerce or online platforms, and interaccount transfers," explained VP of Research Populix, Indah Tanip, at the Online Press Conference on Tuesday, July 9, 2024."
Reasons Gen Z Use Digital Banks
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Populix survey also captures several reasons that cause Gen Z to prefer digital banks. These factors include speed and ease of fund transfers, integration with e-wallets and other payment services, flexibility to make transactions anywhere and anytime, promotional programs, discounts, cashback, more affordable administrative fees, support for various transactions in one application, and various other things."
According to Indah, Gen Z, who are characterized as being open to the internet and technology, has driven this generation to have different expectations towards banking products and services. This Populix survey was conducted with a sample of 250 respondents, whose areas were randomly distributed. The age range of the respondents is divided into Gen Z (aged 17-27 years) and Gen Y (aged 28-39 years). Respondents were also screened based on their usage of digital banking in the past month.
"Thus, digital banking players are required to continuously innovate by providing banking solutions and features that meet the expectations of cross-generational customers, especially Gen Z."
add Indah Tanip on the same occasion.

In one of its surveys, Populix also reported the most commonly used digital brands in the last month.
