"Dream - A company in China, named Guangdong Dongpo Paper, has replaced the end-of-year employee bonus program with another scheme designed to encourage sports. They offer attractive financial rewards to employees who exercise every day."
The translation of "Bonus Olahraga" to English is "Sports Bonus".
According to Oddity Central, the paper company in Guangdong Province replaced its performance-based employee bonus scheme with a bonus scheme based on athletic performance.
"To promote a healthy lifestyle among its 100 employees, management decided to reward them based on how much they exercise."
As an example, an employee will receive the full monthly bonus if they run a distance of 50 km in a month. They will receive 60 percent of the bonus for running 40 km, and 30 percent for 30 km. Running enthusiasts will receive a 30 percent bonus if they can prove that they have run more than 100 km in a month.
"My business can only survive if my employees are healthy," said Dongpo Paper's boss, Lin Zhiyong.
"Lin Zhiyong admitted to spending the last three years encouraging his employees to enjoy sports and fitness. The distance traveled by each employee is tracked by an app on their phones. This app also takes into account activities such as hiking and brisk walking, which can each account for 60 and 30 percent of the total exercise required."
The program is deemed a great success, and Lin Zhiyong, who is also a sports enthusiast, claims that all employees are eligible for the full bonus.
According to Chinese media, Dongpo Paper employees are very happy with the new bonus structure, and they say that they can gain health as well as money.
"However, even though this new policy generally received positive responses online, some people believe that this policy could lead to discrimination. "The intention of this company policy is good, but it should consider the conditions or health issues among its employees," one person commented online. The netizen questioned how the policy would apply to employees at risk of heart attacks or those who cannot meet the bonus requirements."
"Others accuse Guangdong Dongpo Paper of endangering the health of its employees by setting very high bonus thresholds for them. Some netizens believe that employees can damage their knees by pursuing these targets."
