Dream - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has officially issued regulations that prohibit the use of smart suitcases or smart luggage by airplane passengers during flights.
The ban was issued because smart luggage uses lithium batteries that can pose a danger to flights. The Ministry of Transportation stated that there are several policies regarding the use of lithium batteries in smart luggage.
The text translates to: "as stated by the Director General of Air Transportation, M. Kristi Endah Murni, reported by Liputan6.com."
The rule is stated in the Circular Letter of the Director General of Air Transportation Number SE 02 Year 2023 regarding Vigilance towards Lithium Batteries and Equipment Containing Lithium Batteries as Passenger and/or Crew Carry-on Items for Aircraft.
In the SE, passengers are not allowed to carry luggage with non-removable lithium batteries exceeding 0.3 g of lithium metal or with a capacity exceeding 2.7 wh.
Passengers are allowed to bring suitcases with non-removable lithium batteries with less than 0.3 g of lithium metal or less than 2.7 Wh of lithium-ion. With these new regulations, the weight and dimensions of the allowed carry-on or checked baggage must comply with the airline's provisions.
"Suitcases with removable lithium batteries must be removed during check-in and the batteries must be carried inside the cabin. Provided that the battery has a capacity of <100 Wh."
The translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags is: "The weight and dimensions of the luggage that will be carried in the cabin or checked baggage must be recorded in accordance with the airline regulations. Kristi mentioned that passengers who bring smart luggage must comply with the established rules for the safety, security, and comfort of the flight."
"He added that there needs to be collaboration between regulators, airlines, and passengers to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and rules. 'Of course, the regulations we create are also based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations, and we want to ensure that users can enjoy all the advanced features of smart luggage without violating existing regulations, so they can travel safely, securely, and comfortably,' said Kristi."
