Sri Mulyani: Indonesia Becomes One of the Countries with the Highest Temperature, This is Not because of Politics

Dream - Sri Mulyani said, climate change alias perubahan iklim should be a serious concern for all parties. This global issue should not be underestimated.

According to him, the recent hot temperatures felt by the people of Indonesia are a serious problem. The hot temperatures are a result of global climate change. Sri Mulyani joked that the hot temperatures in Indonesia are not due to the political situation approaching the general election. She emphasized that the hot temperatures in Indonesia are due to climate change.

"Indonesia is seen as one of the countries with the highest temperature, and this is not because of the political situation. But really hot," said Sri Mulyani at the PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance (IIF) Anniversary Dialogue event at St Regis Hotel, South Jakarta, quoted from Liputan6.com, Monday, January 29, 2024. According to Sri Mulyani, the average global temperature increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius in 2023. Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest average air temperature, reaching 27.8 degrees Celsius."

"This is the second hottest year of 2016 (on average) at 27 degrees Celsius," explained the former Executive Director of the World Bank.

"Therefore, Sri Mulyani asked PT IFF to prioritize sustainable infrastructure development to reduce emissions that can affect global warming. 'So we must address the issue of climate change for the welfare of society, and IFF must be the problem solver,' said Sri Mulyani."

The results of the analysis by the Climate Central climate change monitoring institution, as quoted on the website www.indonesia.go.id, state that November 2022 to October 2023 is the hottest period in history. During that period, the global average temperature is 1.3 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial temperatures. The Climate Central study also mentions that Indonesia has experienced an increase in temperature in the past year. Based on the Climate Shift Index calculation, Indonesia ranks first among G20 member countries with an average score of 2.4, surpassing Saudi Arabia (2.3) and Mexico (2.1).

Climate Central's analysis in 14 cities in Indonesia shows that there are nine cities experiencing consecutive hottest days. Jakarta and Tangerang recorded 17 consecutive hottest days, placing these two cities, along with New Orleans in the United States, in second place on the list of cities in the world with consecutive hottest days. Meanwhile, the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati, stated that data from the World Meteorological Organization declared that 2023 will be the hottest year in recorded climate history.

"According to data from the World Meteorological Organization, July-August 2023, is recorded as the hottest three months in history. By observing the climate evolution in 2023, this year has a great chance of becoming the hottest year in recorded climate history," said Dwikorita, quoted from www.indonesia.go.id."
