Dream - There is something interesting about President Joko Widodo's visit to Sampit, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan. The Head of State was surprised to learn that the price of food in Kalimantan is almost the same as in Java.
"The price of basic necessities is known by the president when talking with traders at Mentaya Shopping Center (PPM) and Mentaya Fish Market (PIM) which are located side by side. The fluctuation of prices in this city also moves quite quickly."
The trigger for the price fluctuations of basic necessities is partly due to the fact that food supplies are still imported from outside the region, such as Java Island. This condition causes the prices of basic necessities to immediately increase when the supply is disrupted.
"Although surprised, the price of food in the area is considered stable by Jokowi. 'From what I saw earlier, the distribution is smooth. I checked it earlier. I was also surprised that the prices are almost the same (as in Java),' said Jokowi quoted from Liputan6.com, Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Jokowi noted that the price of shallots and garlic in Sampit reached Rp40,000. The same goes for chicken which reached Rp38,000 and bird's eye chili which reached Rp45,000."
"I see good. The prices are very good. Red onions Rp40 thousand, garlic Rp40 thousand, chicken Rp38 thousand. It's the same in Java. What I saw earlier was good. The bird's eye chili earlier was also Rp45 thousand," he said.
In this working visit, Jokowi's arrival was enthusiastically welcomed by the traders and thousands of residents who came to fill the largest traditional market area in East Kotawaringin.
Visiting the market is done to find out the condition of stock, supply, and prices of food ingredients. Sampit becomes one of the samples in measuring the level of inflation in Central Kalimantan.
The country with the cheapest fuel prices is Iran, with an average price of only Rp465 per liter.
