Prayer After Sunnah Prayer Behind Maqam Ibrahim, and its Evidence and Specialties

Dream - Hajj pilgrims have now started their activities in the Holy Land. One of them is visiting Maqam Ibrahim. Maqam Nabi Ibrahim is located inside Masjidil Haram, in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Evidence of Praying at Maqam Ibrahim

Maqam Ibrahim is a small building that contains a stone that was brought down by Allah from heaven along with other small stones found in Hajar Aswad.

In the Quran, in Surah Ali Imran verse 97, Maqam Ibrahim has been mentioned:

لَفِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۖ وَمَن دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّٰهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

Artinya: Di sana terdapat tanda-tanda yang jelas, (di antaranya) maqam Ibrahim. Barangsiapa memasukinya (Baitullah) amanlah dia. Dan (di antara) kewajiban manusia terhadap Allah adalah melaksanakan ibadah haji ke Baitullah, yaitu bagi orang-orang yang mampu mengadakan perjalanan ke sana. Barangsiapa mengingkari (kewajiban) haji, maka ketahuilah bahwa Allah Mahakaya (tidak memerlukan sesuatu) dari seluruh alam."

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala also said in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 125 about the recommendation of praying near Maqam Ibrahim.

وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا الْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًا وَاتَّخِذُوا مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى ۖ وَعَهِدْنَا إِلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ أَن طَهِّرَا بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ وَالْعَاكِفِينَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ

Artinya: "Dan (ingatlah), ketika Kami menjadikan rumah (Ka'bah) tempat berkumpul dan tempat yang aman bagi manusia. Dan jadikanlah maqam Ibrahim itu tempat salat. Dan telah Kami perintahkan kepada Ibrahim dan Ismail, 'Bersihkanlah rumah-Ku untuk orang-orang yang tawaf, orang yang iktikaf, orang yang rukuk, dan orang yang sujud!'."

The Specialties of Maqam Ibrahim

When is the Prayer Behind Maqam Ibrahim Performed?

After the hajj pilgrims complete the seven rounds of tawaf around the Kaaba, they then hurry to Maqam Ibrahim. Maqam Ibrahim is the stepping stone of Prophet Ibrahim when building the Kaaba. There, the pilgrims will perform two raka'ahs of sunnah prayer.

This sunnah prayer is recommended as stated in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 125. However, this recommendation is done if possible and does not burden the pilgrims. Considering the number of hajj pilgrims who compete for a place in the area of Maqam Ibrahim.

 أَللَّـهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ سِرِّىْ وَعَلاَنِيَّتِىْ فاَقْبَلْ مَعْذِرَتِى وَتَعْلَمُ حاَجَتِى فَأَعْطِنِى سُؤْلىِ وَتَعْلَمُ ماَفىِ نَفْسِى فاَغْفِرْ لىِ ذُنُوْبِى , أَللَّـهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُكَ إِيْماَناً داَئِماً يُباَشِرُ قَلْبِى وَيَقِيْناً صاَدِقاً حَتَّى أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ لاَ يُصِيْبُنِى إِلاَّ ماَ كَتَبْتَ لىِ وَرَضِّنِى بِماَ قَسَمْتَهُ لىِ ياَ أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ , أَنْتَ وَلِيِّىْ فىِ الدُّنْياَ وَالأَخْرَةِ تَوَفَّنِى مُسْلِماً وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِالصَّالِحِيْنَ أَعْمَالِناَ , أَللَّـهُمَّ لاَ تَدَعْ لَناَ فىِ مَقاَمِناَ هَذاَ ذَنْباً إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ وَلاَ هَمّاً إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ وَلاَ حاَجَةً إِلاَّ قَضَيْتَهاَ وَيَسَّرْتَهاَ فَيَسِّرْ أُمُوْرَناَ وَاشْرَحْ صُدُوْرَناَ وَنَوِّرْ قُلُوْبَناَ وَاخْتِمْ باِلصَّلِحاَتِ أَعْمَالِناَ , أَللَّـهُمَّ تَوَفَّناَ مُسْلِمِيْنَ وَأَحْيِناَ مُسْلِمِيْنَ وَأَلْحِقْناَ بِالصَّالِحِيْنَ غَيْرَ خَزاَياَ وَلاَ مَفْتُوْنِيْنَ

Allaahumma innaka ta’lamu sirrii wa’alaaniyatii faqbal ma’dziratii wata’lamu haajatii fa’thinii su’lii wata’lamu maa fii nafsii faghfirlii dzunuubii.Allaahumma innii as-aluka iimaanan daa-iman yubaasyiru qalbii wayaqiinan shaadiqan hattaa a’lama annahu laa yushiibunii illaa maa katabta lii waradhdhinii bimaa qasamtahu lii yaa arhamar raahimiin.Anta waliyyii fid-dunyaa wal-aakhirati tawaffanii musliman wa-alhiqnii bish-shaalihiina.Allaahumma laa tada’ lanaa fii maqaaminaa haadzaa dzanban illaa ghafartahu walaa hamman illaa farrajtahu walaa haajatan illaa qadhaitahaa wayassartahaa fayassir umuuranaa wasyrah shuduuranaa wanawwir quluubanaa wakhtim bish-shaalihaati a’maalanaa.Allaahumma tawaffanaa muslimiina wa-ahyinaa muslimiina wa-alhiqnaa bish-shaalihiina ghaira khazaayaa walaa maftuuniin.

Meaning: “O Allah, You know my hidden secrets and my open deeds, so accept my plea. You know my needs, so grant my request. You know what is in my heart, so forgive my sins.O Allah, I ask You for steadfast and continuous faith that enlightens my heart and true conviction until I know that nothing happens to me except what You have decreed for me. Please me with what You have destined for me, O Most Merciful. You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.”

“O Allah, do not leave us in this place with any sin except that You forgive it, nor any grief except that You alleviate it, nor any need except that You fulfill it and make it easy. So make our affairs easy, expand our chests, illuminate our hearts, and seal our deeds with righteous actions. O Allah, cause us to die as Muslims, resurrect us as Muslims, and gather us with the righteous without disgrace or tribulation.”

O Allah, I beseech You for unwavering faith that remains in my heart, true conviction that truly allows me to know that nothing befalls me except what You have decreed for me. Make me content with whatever You have apportioned for me. O Most Merciful, You are our protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and unite me with the righteous.

O Allah, do not leave us in this place with any sin except that You forgive it, nor any distress except that You alleviate it, nor any need except that You fulfill it and make it easy. So make our affairs easy, expand our chests, illuminate our hearts, and conclude all our deeds with righteous actions. O Allah, cause us to die as Muslims, grant us life as Muslims, and reunite us with the righteous without disgrace or trial.”

Prayer When Passing by Maqam Ibrahim

Meanwhile, when passing by Maqam Ibrahim, Muslims are advised to recite the following prayer:

رَبِّ ادْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَلْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَانًا نَصِيرًا وَقُلْ جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا

Artinya: "Wahai Tuhanku, masukkanlah aku secara benar dan keluarkanlah pula aku secara benar, berikanlah kepadaku dari sisi Engkau kekuasan yang menolong. Dan katakanlah, 'yang benar telah datang dan yang batil telah lenyap. Sesungguhnya yang batil adalah sesuatu yang pasti lenyap'."
