The Figure of Juhrawiyah, the Oldest Pilgrim from Bali, Over a Century Old

Dream - Based on data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 30 percent of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims, or around 67,000 people, are elderly. Considering their age and health conditions, some elderly people are given priority to depart earlier.

One of the oldest pilgrims in group 45 from Bali is Juhrawiyah, who departed for the Holy Land on June 8, 2023.

At the age of 103, Juhrawiyah expressed her gratitude for still being given the opportunity to be a guest of Allah and depart for the holy land.

Juhrawiyah mentioned that she registered for the Hajj pilgrimage in 2014, but because she is elderly, she was able to depart earlier.

"Alhamdulillah, because I'm elderly, I got priority to depart for Hajj. Although we registered in the same year, those who are not elderly have not received the call to depart," said Juhrawiyah.

This unmarried woman lives with her niece in Kampung Kodok, Banjar Tegal Belodan, Dauh Peken Village, Tabanan District. With the help of her niece, she was able to pay for the Hajj pilgrimage.

"I don't have children because I'm not married. My nieces have helped me prepare all the requirements for the Hajj pilgrimage," she said.

Despite being over a century old, Juhrawiyah is still in excellent health. She doesn't even use a cane or wheelchair to walk.

Without a permanent job, Juhrawiyah spends her days taking care of her niece's grandchildren. Sometimes, she also helps her niece sell discounted clothes in the Kampung Kodok area.

It turns out that Juhrawiyah is not originally from Bali. She was born in Raas District, Sumenep Regency, Madura.

Around the early 1990s, Juhrawiyah moved to Bali and lived and traded in the Kuta area, Badung Regency. Then, in the 2000s, she moved to Tabanan.

She admitted that she never expected that her daily labor, although miscellaneous, would still be aided by Allah to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. Therefore, she hopes for a smooth journey during her worship in the holy land.

The story goes that the unnamed woman went on a Hajj pilgrimage until she arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

But as soon as she was about to leave the plane that brought her, she suddenly smelled a very foul odor.

"As soon as I got off the plane, what... I immediately smelled the stench of a rat's carcass," said the woman.

The stench of the rat's carcass was really strong, as if the source was very close to the woman.

The strange incident experienced by the woman didn't stop there. She also had a strange experience in Mina.

According to the woman, she suddenly saw a large number of ants.

But after performing ablution and reciting istighfar to repent, the strange disturbances disappeared on their own.
