Recitation of Prayer from Shafa to Marwah, along with Steps to Perform Sa'i

Dream – Recitation of Prayer from Shafa to Marwah is an important practice to be recited during the performance of sa'i. Considering that sa'i is part of the pillars of Hajj and Umrah, it is necessary to know the recitation of prayer from Shafa to Marwah for every pilgrim.

Sa'i itself is known as an act of worship performed by running small distances between the hills of Shafa and Marwah back and forth seven times. Sa'i is a pillar of Hajj to commemorate the perseverance of Siti Hajar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim, who ran small distances to find water for her son Ismail when they were left in the desert of Makkah.

Sa'i also refers to the effort or struggle of someone to achieve a specific goal. It can mean someone's hard work and perseverance in overcoming obstacles or challenges to achieve the desired results.

In some dialects of the Arabic language, the word sa'i can also mean 'trying' or 'attempting'. This describes someone's effort to do or try something.

The act of sa'i holds many important meanings that Muslims need to understand, especially those performing Hajj and Umrah. Therefore, it is important to know the recitation of prayers to be recited while running small distances between the hills of Shafa and Marwah. Here is the recitation of prayer from Mount Shafa to Marwah that needs to be recited.

Steps to Perform Sa'i

As one of the pillars of Hajj and Umrah, sa'i must not be neglected. Here is the procedure for performing sa'i from start to finish:

1. When preparing to perform sa'i, the pilgrim must arrive at Masjidil Haram in the city of Makkah, where sa'i is performed. Make sure to be in a state of ablution (cleanliness) before entering the mosque.
2. After that, proceed to Mount Shafa located at the southeast side of the Kaaba.
3. Upon arrival, recite the intention before performing sa'i. The intention can be done silently or spoken.
4. Then recite a specific prayer to start sa'i, such as "Bismillahi Allahu Akbar" (In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest).
5. Next, start walking towards Mount Marwah. However, at a distance of about 100 meters from Mount Shafa, you will encounter a green sign indicating the beginning of the sa'i ritual.
6. After encountering the green sign, start running small distances between two green signs that mark the beginning and end of each round. Do this between Shafa and Marwah.
7. During the running, it is advisable to increase prayers and remembrance of Allah. Sahabat Dream can also recite specific remembrances such as "Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar."
8. After reaching Mount Marwah, pause for a moment and face the Kaaba. Recite a specific prayer at Marwah if desired.
9. Then return to Shafa by walking normally. This completes one round of sa'i.
10. Continue the second round of sa'i by repeating all the above steps. Do this until completing a total of seven rounds, with four rounds starting from Shafa and three rounds starting from Marwah.
11. After completing the seven rounds, sa'i is considered finished. After that, the pilgrim can continue with other worship in Masjidil Haram.

After reaching Mount Marwah, pause for a moment and face the Kaaba. Recite a specific prayer at Marwah if desired.

Then return to Shafa by walking normally. This completes one round of sa'i.

Continue the second round of sa'i by repeating all the above steps. Do this until completing a total of seven rounds, with four rounds starting from Shafa and three rounds starting from Marwah.

After completing the seven rounds, sa'i is considered finished. After that, the pilgrim can continue with other worship in Masjidil Haram.

Prayer Before Starting Sa'i

When preparing to perform sa'i, both Hajj and Umrah pilgrims need to recite the following prayer as an intention to strengthen their hearts. With the intention, Hajj pilgrims will become more focused in performing the sa'i ritual.

أَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللهُ بِهِ وَرَسُولُهُ، إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ، فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا، وَمَنِ اتَّخَذَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ

Artinya: "Aku memulai apa yang sudah dimulai oleh Allah dan oleh Rasul. Sesungguhnya bukit Shafa dan bukit Marwah sebagian dari tanda kebesaran Allah. Barang siapa yang pergi haji ke rumah Allah atau umrah maka tidak ada dosa bagi yang mengerjakan sa'i diantara keduanya."

Prayer on Mount Shafa

The recitation of prayer from Shafa to Marwah is practiced as an expression of gratitude and seeking goodness from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Therefore, when Sahabat Dream is on top of Mount Shafa, it is recommended to face the Kaaba and recite the following prayer:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ٣× لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ عَلَى مَا هَدَانَا وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى مَا أَوْلَانَا، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Artinya: "Allah is the Greatest 3x. There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest and all praise is due to Allah. Allah is the Greatest for guiding us, and all praise is due to Allah for what He has given us. There is no god but Allah, the One without partners. His is the kingdom, and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and in His hand is all goodness. And He is capable of all things."

Prayer on Mount Marwah

Prayers from Shafa to Marwah are also recited when they have arrived at Mount Marwah. The sa'i prayer on Mount Marwah is recited when the sa'i worship process is complete. Sa'i itself starts from Mount Shafa and ends at Mount Marwah. The prayer recitation after sa'i when the pilgrims are on Mount Marwah is as follows:

اللّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَعَلَى طَاعَتِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ أَعِنَّا وَعَلَى غَيْرِكَ لاَتَكِلْنَا وَعَلَى اْلإِيْمَانِ واْلإِسْلاَمِ الَكَامِلِ جَمِيْعًا تَوَفَّنَا وَأَنْتَ رَاضٍ عَنَّا اللّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِيْ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّفَ مَالاَ يَعْنِيْنِيْ وَارْزُقْنِيْ حُسْنَ النَّظَرِ فِيْمَا يُرْضِيْكَ عَنِّيْ يَاأَرْحَمَ الرَّا حِمِيْنَ.

Allaahumma rabbanaa taqabbal minnaa wa'aafinaa wa'fu 'annaa wa'alaa tha'atika wa syukrika a'innaa wa'alaa ghairika laa takilnaa wa'alal imaani wal islaamil kaamili jami’an tawaffanaa wa anta raadhin ‘anna.Allaahummarhamnii an takallafa maa laa ya'niinii warzuqnii husnan nazhari fii maa yurdhiika 'anni yaa arhamar-raahimiin

Meaning: "O Allah, accept our deeds, grant us good health, forgive our sins, and help us to be obedient and grateful to You. Do not make us rely on anyone other than You. Let us die in complete faith and Islam, and may You be pleased with us."
