Elderly Hajj Pilgrims Advised Not to Force Themselves to Perform Umrah Multiple Times, It Could Be Forbidden

Dream - Pilgrims who stay in Mecca for a long time while waiting for the peak of the hajj pilgrimage can perform the umrah ritual more than once.

However, performing multiple voluntary umrah rituals only applies to pilgrims who are physically strong and capable of performing tawaf (circumambulation around the Kaaba), sa'i (running between the hills of Safa and Marwah), and shaving their heads in an orderly manner.

Pilgrims must not have a high risk of developing diseases that can weaken their bodies and affect their ability to perform the obligatory hajj rituals.

The Coordinator of Worship Guidance (Bimbad) of the Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) in the Madinah Saudi Arabia Working Area (Daker), KH Ahmad Wazir Ali, explained that performing umrah multiple times is permissible.

But if performing umrah multiple times can cause their health condition to deteriorate and interfere with the hajj pilgrimage, then the ruling will change.

Quoting Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 195, Wazir emphasized that Islam prohibits its followers from causing harm to themselves.

"And do not throw yourselves into destruction. And do good," he said.

The caretaker of Denanyar Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, firmly stated that if elderly pilgrims or pilgrims with high risk force themselves to perform umrah multiple times, then it could be forbidden.

"It could be forbidden," said Kiai Wazir firmly.
