4 Conditions that Make People Always the Target of Mosquitoes, You Might be One of Them

Dream - Around 20 percent of people have certain characteristics that make them more susceptible to mosquito bites. Mosquitoes tend to choose these individuals due to various factors, such as blood type, respiration, or even clothing color.

4 Conditions that Make People Always the Target of Mosquitoes, You Might be One of Them

Only female mosquitoes bite, as they need protein from human blood to produce eggs. On the other hand, male mosquitoes only feed on nectar. So, what are the conditions that make someone always a target for mosquito bites?

1. Specific Blood Types

Mosquitoes have preferences for certain blood types, so people with certain blood types are more often targeted. A study in 2022 found that: Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) prefer blood type O. Swamp mosquitoes (Anopheles gambiae) tend to be attracted to blood type AB.

2. People with Big Bodies

Mosquitoes can sense carbon dioxide (CO2) from a distance. People with larger bodies emit more CO2, making them more attractive to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can detect humans from a distance of 5 to 15 meters.

3. People who are overheated

Female mosquitoes are attracted to heat, so they are more likely to bite people with higher body temperatures. You may be more frequently bitten by mosquitoes if you exercise outdoors or are in a hot place. In addition, mosquitoes are attracted to sweat, especially lactic acid, ammonia, and other compounds.

4. Dark Colored Clothes

Mosquitoes use their vision to find their victims. They are more attracted to dark colors like green and black rather than bright colors like white or gray. Choose soft colors like pastel or cream to reduce mosquito attraction.

"How to Prevent Mosquito Bites"

To protect yourself from mosquito bites, you can try the following steps quoted from Cleveland Clinic. Wear Protective Clothing: Protect your skin by wearing a hat, long-sleeved shirt, and long pants when outdoors. Use Mosquito Repellent: Mosquito repellent is the best way to protect yourself from mosquito bites, but it is advisable to avoid chemical-based mosquito repellents.

Keep Clean: Take a shower after sweating a lot, because mosquitoes are attracted to the substances emitted by the body when sweating. Avoid Water Puddles: Make sure there are no water puddles around the house, because mosquitoes lay eggs in those places. Close the Windows: Make sure the windows have mosquito screens so that Sahabat Dream can enjoy fresh air without worrying about being attacked by mosquitoes. Source: Liputan6.com.
