"Dream - Indonesian Wastra is showcased again in an international event. This time, a batik dress created by Coreta Louise from Indonesia was exhibited at the Gala event in Woodrow Wilson House Exhibition & Gala, Washington DC, United States, in early May 2024."
The event entitled "Fashioning Power, Fashioning Peace" presents a collection of batik from Brand Coreta Louise, which was selected to represent Indonesia, alongside works from 36 other countries, including France represented by Christian Dior and the Philippines by Bessie Besana.
The event was held at the Woodrow Wilson House (the 28th President of America) which is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a museum dedicated to preserving the historic home of President Woodrow Wilson in Washington DC.
Bunaken Sea Inspiration
Batik Coreta Louise displayed this time is inspired by the beauty of Bunaken Sea in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Adopting the theme "Reflection of The Sea," this elegant dress becomes part of the Indonesia Now NYFW spring summer 2022 collection.
One of the interesting things about this collection is a white off-shoulder dress with black batik pattern as the outer accent and plain yellow inner.
This bright top is paired with a puff skirt with a batik pattern depicting ocean waves using bright colors such as sage green, turquoise, brown, and black.
"Coreta Louise admitted to being proud to be able to showcase her work at the event, which was attended by prominent figures from 36 other countries. 'I want to promote the beauty and richness of Indonesian textiles, one of which is batik fabric applied to elegant and classy dresses,' said Coreta Louise in a written statement received by Dream."
"Previously, the Coreta Louise brand first participated in the New York Fashion Week in 2018 and began to be recognized internationally. When at the New York Fashion Week spring summer 2022, one of its collections was also chosen to represent Indonesia on the international stage and showcased at the Woodrow Wilson House Exhibition and Gala in Washington DC, United States."
