Prayer Before Choosing Goods when Shopping

We must be able to control impulsive behavior when shopping. Therefore, it is important to make a list of needs before shopping. This is important to prevent the purchase of unnecessary items. Impulsive behavior can trap people into buying items based on wants rather than needs.

Therefore, it is advisable to recite the following prayer before choosing goods when shopping to avoid impulsive behavior:

يَاحَيُّ يَاقَيُّوْمُ يَادَائِمُ يَارَؤُوْفُ يَارَحِيْمُ أَسْأَلُكَ بِعِزَّتِك وَقُدْرَتِكَ وَمَا أَحَاطَ بِهِ عِلْمُكَ أَنْ تُقْسِمَ لِيْ مِنَ التِّجَارَةِ اْليَوْمَ أَعْظَمَهَا رِزْقاً وَأَوْسَعَهَا فَضْلاً وَخَيْرَهَا عَاقِبَةً فَإِنَّهُ لاَ خَيْرَ فِيْمَا لاَ عَاقِبَةَ لَهُ

Yaa hayyu yaa qoyyumu yaa daa-imu yaa rouufu yaa rohiimu.As-aluka bi ‘izzatika wa qudrotika wa maa ahaatho bihii ‘ilmuka an tuqsima lii minat tijaarotil yawma a’zhamahaa rizqon wa awsa’ahaa fadhlan wa khoirohaa ‘aaqibatan fa innahuu laa khoiro fiimaa laa ‘aaqibata lahuu.

Meaning: "O Living One, O Eternal One, O Everlasting One, O Gentle One, O Merciful One, I ask You by Your glory, power, and all the knowledge that encompasses it, to grant me today the most abundant provision, the widest grace, and the best outcome, for there is no good in what has no good outcome."

Prayer Before Choosing New Goods

In addition to the prayer above, there is also a prayer before choosing new goods that can be practiced when shopping. This prayer is important to remind us that choosing needed items is more important than just desired ones. In addition, this prayer is also recited to seek blessings from the items we buy in order to avoid arrogance.

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْها

Allahumma barikli fiiha.

Meaning: "O Allah, bless me in it (the purchased item)."

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا جُبِلَ عَلَيْهِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا جُبِلَ عَلَيْهِ

Allahumma inni as-aluka khoirohu wa khoiroma jubila ‘alaihi wa a’uzubika min syarrihi wa syarrima jubila ‘alaihi.

Meaning: "O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of its nature. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of its nature."
