The Story of a Sinner Who Died Without Being Cared for by the Community

It is told that in a corner of Bashrah City, there lived a man whose daily activities involved committing sins, such as getting drunk and visiting brothels.

One day, the man passed away. Usually, when someone dies, the community will come to help with various things, including taking care of the funeral. But not for this man. Because he had committed many sins, his death was not cared for by the community, and it made his wife confused about who to ask for help.

Finally, the wife decided to pay two people to bring the coffin of her husband's body to the mosque. When she arrived at the mosque, the wife did not see anyone willing to pray for her husband's funeral. She continued the burial process.

Prayed for by Allah's Guardian

The wife decided to take her husband's body to the desert for burial. Unexpectedly, she met someone who had been waiting for her husband's body to pray for it. This person was a pious and secluded figure on a hill near the city. In fact, the people around knew him as a saint.

Not long after that, news spread in the Bashrah community that someone known as Allah's guardian was willing to come down from the hill to pray for the funeral of the man who was a sinner. This surprised the community, and they flocked to the burial site. Unexpectedly, the community lined up behind the Allah's guardian and joined in praying for the funeral.

There Were Good Deeds Done by the Sinner

To answer the curiosity of the people about the guardian of Allah SWT, they asked him directly. Then he answered:

"In my dream, I heard a voice from the sky. 'Come down, meet the funeral of so-and-so. You will see a funeral that is not accompanied by anyone except his wife. Pray for his funeral because he has truly been forgiven.'"

After hearing the answer from the guardian of Allah, the people were surprised and amazed. Even the guardian himself still did not know the reason why he had to immediately pray for the man when he heard the voice from the sky. Not only that, when hearing the explanation from the wife of the deceased, it turned out that the man had committed many sins during his life. But the guardian wanted the wife to remember any good deeds, no matter how small, that her late husband had done.

There were three good deeds remembered by the wife, namely:

First, every time he sobered up in the early morning, the deceased immediately changed his clothes, performed ablution, and quickly went to the mosque to pray the dawn prayer in congregation. After praying, he returned to the place of entertainment and committed sins again.

Second, the deceased's house was always visited by one or two orphaned children whom he provided for. In fact, the deceased's kindness exceeded the kindness towards his own children.

Third, when the deceased sobered up from his drunkenness at night, he cried and regretted his actions. He also prayed to Allah SWT, "O Lord, the owner of the corners of Hell. Will You fill those corners of Hell with this lowly body?""
