Dream - Maintaining health can be said to be a very profitable 'investment'. When we are accustomed to adopting a healthy lifestyle, getting vaccinated, and regularly getting check-ups from a young age, our physical condition can remain fit as we age.
"If there are complaints or serious health issues, therapy and treatment can be done immediately. Another important thing is to get vaccinated. For a long time, many people assume that vaccines are only important for children."
Adults actually need vaccinations as a preventive measure to avoid dangerous diseases that can be fatal. Vaccinations are able to produce immunity against certain diseases, so when we are infected with a disease, the symptoms experienced will not be as severe as those who have not been vaccinated. In fact, vaccines cannot provide 100% immunity and guarantee protection against a disease, because vaccines function to reduce symptoms, prevent complications, and even prevent death.
There are 23 vaccines recommended by PAPDI (Indonesian Association of Internal Medicine Specialists) in 2024, namely influenza vaccine, tetanus vaccine, varicella vaccine, HPV vaccine, Zoster vaccine, measles vaccine, PCV13 vaccine, PCV15 vaccine, meningitis vaccine, and many more.
For adults, we can start vaccination with commonly used vaccines such as influenza, dengue fever (DBD), and HPV. Babies and children are also required to be vaccinated through immunizations such as Hepatitis B, Polio, BCG, DPT, PCV, Rotavirus, and Measles. However, based on the 2022 Health Statistics by the Central Statistics Agency, there are still various reasons for children aged 0-23 months.
"Not only for children, vaccination for adults is equally important to be done. There needs to be more information and education conducted by all parties, especially to ensure the utilization of vaccination with complete doses without interruption, correcting myths and misconceptions about vaccines," said Dr. Alfi Auliya Rachman, MKM, C.DCAP, in the event "Bersama Galakkan Vaksinasi" held by Halodoc in Jakarta, April 30, 2024."
The vaccination coverage in Indonesia is still focused on children. According to the 2022 Health Statistics data by the Central Statistics Agency, there are still various reasons for children aged 0-23 not being vaccinated.
From the data, there are six main reasons why Indonesian parents are reluctant to vaccinate their children.1. Worried about the side effects of vaccines2. Worried about the contents of the vaccines3. Doubtful about the effectiveness of immunization4. Unaware of the benefits of immunization5. Unaware of the immunization program6. Lack of financial means
In response to the matter, Veronica Utami, Chief Operating Officer of Halodoc, revealed that they support preventive health programs, namely vaccination. One of them is by providing vaccination services at home and also for corporations. "We hope that the Home Lab & Vaccination service can continue to be the answer to accompany a healthy lifestyle and preventive measures for the community in the present and future," said Veronica.
