"Dream - Soap with antiseptic formula is often used daily for bathing. For more convenience, sometimes we also use the same soap to bathe our little ones who are still toddlers."
Many people don't know that antiseptic soap should not be used every day for children. Why is that?
Quoted from KlikDokter.com, the skin of babies or toddlers is relatively more sensitive compared to adult skin, and tends to be more prone to irritation. There are several factors that cause this, namely: - Children's skin absorbs water faster and loses water at the same time. This means that their skin easily dries out. - The natural moisturizing factors in their skin are still limited, especially in babies. - The skin layer is thinner compared to adults. In addition, the protective barrier that aims to maintain skin moisture is also thin and easily eroded during bathing, making their skin more prone to drying out.
The condition above makes a child's skin easily dry and irritated. If not prevented or treated properly, bacteria or fungi can easily grow, increasing the risk of widespread skin infection.
"Antiseptic Soap Not Recommended for Toddlers"
The antiseptic formula in soap is often considered better than regular soap. This is because it is more effective in cleaning germs and bacteria on the skin.
It should be noted that the use of antiseptic soap on infants is not medically recommended. According to Dr. Sepriani Timurtini Limbong, excessive use of antiseptic soap on the skin of infants can actually make the bacteria on their skin resistant to antibiotics.
"Trihalomethanes, one of the ingredients in antiseptic soap, is also believed to be capable of causing hormonal disruption and muscle contractions at various levels of cells, which can ultimately lead to dryness, irritation, redness, and peeling of the skin," said Dr. Sepriani.
"Not only that, there are other negative effects that can be experienced by the little one if they bathe too often with antiseptic soap."
The Effects If Toddlers Frequently Bathe with Antiseptic Soap.
- Increase the risk of allergies because most of these soap types contain high levels of alcohol. - The chemicals found in antiseptic soap can contaminate the water used for bathing the Little One.
Antiseptic soap itself is safer when used by teenage children. Entering adolescence, their bodies usually have more bacteria, so antiseptic soap can be effective in cleansing the body while killing these bacteria. Source: KlikDokter.com
