"Dream - Immunization is highly needed for newborn babies and children to prevent the occurrence of diseases that can be harmful and reduce their future quality of life."
Not all immunizations can guarantee that a child will not be affected by certain diseases, but at least if they do get infected, the condition will not be severe and life-threatening.
Many do not know that basic immunization for infants and children in Indonesia can be obtained for free at Puskesmas in each region. Previously, children received 11 types of free immunizations and now it has increased by three, making a total of 14 types.
"The Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P), Dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, D.H.S.M, MARS, stated that the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) targets that 95 percent of children must receive complete basic immunization. 'Because I see that there are some districts/cities that can approach the national target, but there are districts/cities that are very far from complete basic immunization. Indeed, 95 percent of our children must have received immunization. Therefore, we expand the immunization to include 14 antigens and that is already national,' said Dr. Maxi."
This immunization expansion includes 3 additional vaccines, namely Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) for cancer, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) for pneumonia.
Then Rotavirus Vaccine (RV) for diarrhea. Kemenkes also provides a second dose of injectable polio vaccine or IPV2 to strengthen protection against polio. With these additions, there are a total of 14 types of vaccines given in free routine immunization at government health facilities such as Puskesmas.
1. BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) for tuberculosis (TB) disease 2. DPT-Hib for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) disease 3. Hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type b infection 4. MMR for measles, rubella, and mumps disease 5. MR for measles and rubella disease 6. OPV or oral polio vaccine drops 7. IPV and IPV2 or injectable polio vaccines
8. TT Vaccine for tetanus9. DT Vaccine for diphtheria and tetanus10. TD Vaccine for diphtheria and tetanus11. Japanese Encephalitis (JE) for encephalitis12. HPV for cervical cancer13. PCV for pneumonia14. Rotavirus for diarrhea
It should be noted that pneumonia and diarrhea are 2 out of 5 leading causes of infant mortality in Indonesia that can be prevented with PCV and Rotavirus (RV) immunizations.
The following is the translation of the provided 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "PCV immunization has been given from 2016 to 2021 and covers all districts/cities in Bangka Belitung and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), as well as several districts/cities in West Java and East Java. In 2022, the coverage of PCV immunization is expanded nationwide and given twice when the child is aged 0-11 months and once when the child is aged 12-24 months. Meanwhile, the administration of Rotavirus (RV) immunization is recommended three times, namely when the baby is 2, 3, and 4 months old, to provide high and equal protection."
Immunization RV has been given in 2022. Initially, RV immunization covered 21 districts/cities in South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua, and West Papua. However, to accelerate the reduction of morbidity and mortality due to diarrhea, the Ministry of Health has expanded the provision of RV immunization throughout Indonesia since 2023.
"Rotavirus immunization introduction has indeed been carried out since 2022, but we are conducting national launching and expansion," said Dirjen Maxi. Source: Ministry of Health
