Dream - Several regions in Indonesia are currently experiencing extremely hot weather. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), this is not considered a heatwave or hot wave.
The recent hot weather is mainly due to the apparent movement of the sun, which is closer to the equator. This condition occurs every year and can be dangerous for children who engage in a lot of physical activities outdoors.
Why is that? According to Dr. Frieda Handayani, a pediatric specialist, hot air can have a significant impact on children's health. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heatstroke.
"Children are more vulnerable to the effects of hot air. They also have a less effective thermoregulation system, which makes it more difficult for them to maintain the proper body temperature," said Dr. Frieda.
Hot air often causes children to experience dry skin, headaches, as well as eye and nose irritation. If indeed the child must be active outdoors when the weather is hot, make sure it is not too long.
Always apply sunscreen to the skin. Always provide drinks to prevent dehydration, it is better if it is plain water or natural fruit juice. Also ask the child to wear a hat or use an umbrella.
"Avoid midday hours and find a comfortable shady spot. Make sure children wear hats to protect their eyes and skin from direct sunlight," said Dr. Frieda."
Also learn the signs of a child experiencing dehydration after activities in hot weather. Signs of dehydration include the child's skin feeling dry and hot, excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea, and increased heart rate.
The face of the child also appears very pale. If there are such signs, immediately ask the child to drink and rest and find a more comfortable place. Source: Instagram @frieda.handayani
