Dream - Artificial intelligence (AI) technology can now be said to be the prima donna. The ability to 'think' of this technology can make it easier for us to complete tasks, and for students and students. it can also greatly help with homework.
"Also very helpful in completing tasks. In the world of education, AI is like a double-edged knife. On one hand, it greatly facilitates research and data collection."
"On the other hand, it can be used negatively by students\/university students to complete assignments without having to think too much. This makes some schools\/universities prohibit the use of AI for scientific work."
"Different from most educational institutions, the most expensive boarding school in Switzerland, namely Institut auf dem Rosenberg, actually encourages its students to use AI."
Anita Gademann, the director and head of innovation at the school, said that AI has been prepared for use at the school since five years ago.
"We are very determined to ensure that everything taught to students is relevant to the world they will face in the future. It would be hypocritical if we prohibit the use of AI and then act as if we can send them off to be ready to live as adults," said Gademann."
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "Students at Institut auf dem Rosenberg are taught to use AI like DALL-E (one of the text-to-image generators) to assist in their learning activities."
For example, seventh grade students use DALL-E to assist in visualizing the differences between nobles and peasants for an essay about the role of women in World War I. Students are also expected to be cautious and critical of AI such as ChatGPT. In one case, the AI-generated answer for an economics lesson only received a C grade.
"\u201cIn my opinion, if you receive a C grade from ChatGPT's response, it means that the question you asked is incorrect. Children learn to ask specifically so that the generated answers are correct," said Gademann."
Although students are encouraged to use AI, at Institut auf dem Rosenberg, teachers will know if a student copies an essay. This will be evident from their writing style.
Detecting plagiarism cases in an essay is not an impossible task at Institut auf dem Rosenberg, considering the student-to-staff ratio in the school is two to one. "I am not naive and fully aware of the fact that our school is very exceptional," said Gademann.
Gademann also gives an example of a case in the New York Times article that mentions thousands of teachers from prestigious universities around the world signing up for the GPTZero program to detect AI in student work. Several other schools have also revised their policies regarding plagiarism or even completely banned the use of ChatGPT. He uses the term 'mass hysteria' to refer to the phenomenon of rejection towards AI. Gademann also mentions that the rejection of AI indicates backwardness.
"Imagine a scenario where we spend millions of dollars to find out if a student used a calculator for math homework in the 80s," Gademann asked.
He emphasized that it was a strange thing. Gademann admitted to agreeing with Alleyn's School, a prestigious school in London that emphasizes learning preparation instead of giving homework in the midst of the rampant use of AI.
"I think education should change by the way teachers and students work together in producing something, rather than being taught (by teachers) to produce something. Teachers should teach skills and also ethical values," said Gademann.
Institut auf dem Rosenberg, or often referred to as Rosenberg, is included as the world's most expensive private international boarding school. The cost reaches U $162,500 or Rp25 billion per year.
Located in St. Gallen, Switzerland, it was founded in 1889 by Elrich Schmidt. Institut auf dem Rosenberg was originally known as Institut Dr Schmidt, and its name was changed to Institut auf dem Rosenberg in the 1930s after the death of its founder.
Owned and managed by the Gademann family, Rosenberg is one of the most expensive schools in the world. It implements strict privacy policies regarding the names of its alumni. Unlike most other private institutions, Rosenberg does not accept donations in any form. This school is known to have approximately 300 students from 48 countries. Report by Salma Rihhadatul Aisy.
