According to Dr. Devia Irine Putri, babies can consume cheese as soon as they start consuming complementary foods to breast milk (MPASI). "At the age of 6 months (when starting MPASI) is allowed. If you want to give cheese to the little one, be more selective when choosing it. Babies under 12 months are advised to avoid unpasteurized milk cheese. This type of cheese can contain listeria bacteria, the cause of listeriosis disease.
"It is recommended to provide pasteurized cheese to prevent babies and children from Listeria infection. Usually, cheddar, mozzarella, or cottage cheese are given," said Dr. Devia."
It also explains that cheese is very rich in protein, fat, and calcium. Cheese also contains vitamin A and B12, zinc, phosphorus, and riboflavin, which are very important for children's growth.
When giving cheese to the little one's MPASI, also pay attention to their body's reaction. Some children have allergic reactions when consuming cheese. If after consuming cheese, the baby experiences complaints such as difficulty in defecating, being fussy, rashes, or diarrhea, it could possibly be an allergic reaction.
