Dream - Dream friends may have heard the myth that women age faster than their age. There are several factors that make someone look older than their age, ranging from stress factors, illness, premature aging, to pregnancy.
Many people believe that pregnancy in a woman plays a significant role in the biological age of a mother's body. Biological age is a benchmark for the condition of body tissues.
Also known as the measure of remaining life that someone has based on physiological factors of the body. So, can pregnancy really affect a woman's biological age? Let's check the facts. A study does show that the first pregnancy can increase biological age by two to 14 months. Calen Ryan, a biology expert from Columbia University in New York, confirms this. "Pregnancy has physical impacts that can be seen even when someone is still 20 years old," he said.
This is caused by epigenetics, which is a change in phenotype or genetic expression caused by certain mechanisms. Factors that influence this are severe illness, trauma, and extreme stress that can cause a significant spike in epigenetic age.
Contains a baby in the womb for nine months, whether you like it or not, it plays a major role in changing the mother's body. Scientists argue that pregnancy affects biological age.
Calen Ryan and his fellow experts conducted research on this matter in 2005. The researchers analyzed a total of 825 female participants aged 20 to 22 years old. The study revealed epigenetic changes in the DNA of women who have been pregnant and are currently pregnant, which biologically ages them four to 14 months compared to women who have never been pregnant.
"Pregnancy can indeed make a woman's biological age older. The next question is whether second, third, and subsequent pregnancies will have a cumulative effect on biological age?"
To answer this question, researchers conducted further research on the same women when they were pregnant within a period of 4 to 9 years later. The results of the study showed that second, third, and subsequent pregnancies in women would increasingly add to their epigenetic age. "Women who are pregnant multiple times during this period experience more changes and epigenetic aging," said Ryan.
Ryan also added that each pregnancy will cause aging by two to three months from a person's original biological age. In addition, pregnancy apparently also increases a woman's risk of cardiovascular disease.
Although research does show that pregnancy will increase biological age, Dream Friends do not need to worry too much about it. Other studies show that there are benefits to be gained from a woman after being pregnant. Being pregnant one to two times can reduce the risk of certain cancers. In many cases, having children also increases someone's life expectancy.
Ryan and other researchers are currently working to reduce the negative impact of pregnancy on a woman's biological age. Several studies are being conducted to support this. Report by Salma Rihhadatul Aisy/ Source: National Geographic
