The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: "There are ten things that are part of human nature; trimming the mustache, growing the beard, using a toothstick (miswak), inhaling water into the nose (istinsyaq), cutting nails, cleaning the gaps between fingers, removing underarm hair, shaving pubic hair, and using water for istinja' (cleaning after using the toilet)." However, scholars argue that plucking armpit hair is more preferable than shaving it. It is stated by Ibn Hajr in Fathul Bari bi Syarhi Bukhari that shaving armpit hair will strengthen and thicken it, thus adding unpleasant odor from the armpit.
