Dream - There are many ways people save their savings. Although the majority choose banks as a safe place to deposit their money, there are still some people who prefer to keep their money inside their homes. That is the method chosen by an elderly couple who stored billions of money under their mattress because they didn't trust the security of banks. Unfortunately, a tragic incident during the night has caused all their money to disappear.
Quoting Sanook, Liu and his wife live in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, China, leading a frugal life. They struggle to survive by opening a small shop in their neighborhood with limited capital.
Even though the business he opened was not large, the store has helped them have savings for their old age. Liu gave all his money, worth 1.62 million yuan or around Rp3.5 billion, from his business earnings to his wife to be saved. Because they didn't trust banks, the 60-year-old couple decided to hide all their money under the bed. They kept the billions of rupiah in a large drawer hidden behind the mattress.
One night, Liu and his wife were walking and eating together outside, but they left the house without locking the door. Disaster struck when someone sneaked in and stole their "retirement savings".
When they returned home, they were shocked to find that the drawers and wardrobes were destroyed, and the furniture was scattered. They then contacted the police, who were also surprised to learn the amount of money stolen from the house. During the investigation, the police found small footprints in the hallway left by the suspect. To find other clues, they also asked some questions to Liu and his wife's neighbors.
The police also examined the CCTV footage around Liu's residence and found evidence that there were two mysterious men carrying strange bags. Liu and his wife, upon seeing the recording, shouted that those bags were their bed sheets.
After conducting various search efforts, it was found that the perpetrator is a 40-year-old man who was previously sentenced to nine years in prison for theft. Released in 2003, the perpetrator committed a similar criminal act 12 years later. The police finally managed to capture the perpetrator after tracking his location in Inner Mongolia. Another identity of the mastermind behind the theft was also revealed, namely the grandson of the main perpetrator.
He was arrested the day after in Liaoning. However, the police only managed to seize an amount of 1.35 million yuan or approximately Rp3 billion and a car worth 150 thousand yuan or Rp336.5 million.
The two perpetrators admitted to having been wandering around Liu's residential area for some time to find a victim. They coincidentally found Liu's house door unlocked and immediately sneaked in to search for something. The two thieves were sentenced to ten years in prison. Meanwhile, Liu and his wife did not dare to hide their money at home and immediately stored it in the bank. Author: Nisya Aprilya.
