Six patients are being treated at Sheba Medical Center, three of whom are on ventilators and in critical condition. So far, five patients have died at Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva. Eight individuals are being treated at the hospital, and eight patients who are suspected of having West Nile fever have not yet been verified at the central laboratory to determine if they are infected with the virus.

The West Nile Virus is caused by a virus that lives in the wild, usually transmitted by birds. The disease journey begins when mosquitoes bite birds and transmit the virus to them, which continues to live in the bird's body. In the next stage, mosquitoes continue to bite, transmitting the virus to animals and humans. This virus is generally considered a mild disease, but in some cases, it can cause severe morbidity and even death.

This disease is reported severe in 1 percent of cases and includes neurological signs associated with meningitis, acute encephalitis, or acute flaccid paralysis. Those at risk of exposure are patients with chronic diseases that suppress the immune system, cancer patients with a weak immune system, infants, and the elderly.
