Subdit V Tipidkor of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is said to be conducting an investigation into allegations of corruption in the form of extortion committed by the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in handling cases at the Ministry of Agriculture in 2021. The summons letter has also been signed by the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak, on August 25, 2023. Shortly thereafter, there were circulating handwritten notes explaining the chronology of the extortion committed by Firli Bahuri against Syahrul Yasin Limpo, which occurred in 2022. The notes are said to belong to the Director of Agricultural Machinery at the Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Hatta, who is also a suspect in the KPK case along with SYL.

Before finally being examined, Firli Bahuri was known to always avoid inspections at the Metro Police. Firli always claimed to have other schedules. The same goes for his examination by the Supervisory Board (Dewas KPK). Dewas is known to be investigating the ethical allegations against Firli Bahuri regarding the extortion of SYL. Always avoiding the media during the examination, Firli provided a written statement delivered by the Head of News Division of the KPK, Ali Fikri, in the KPK journalists' messaging application group with the public relations team. In the written statement, Firli denied any extortion or acceptance of gratuities. However, all of this was denied by the Metro Police in a press conference on Thursday, November 23, 2023, early morning. Firli officially became a suspect in the extortion case involving SYL.
