Dream - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) denies the news of the elimination of scout extracurricular activities in the Merdeka curriculum. The news previously went viral on social media. Many netizens discuss scout extracurricular activities that are no longer mandatory to be implemented by educational institutions. The Head of the Standardization, Curriculum, and Education Assessment Agency (BSKAP), Anindito Aditomo, emphasizes that every school up to the secondary education level is required to provide Scout as an extracurricular activity in the Merdeka curriculum.
"The Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 12/2024 does not change the provision that Scout is a mandatory extracurricular activity to be provided by schools. Schools are still required to provide at least one extracurricular activity, namely Scout," said Anindito quoted from his written statement, Monday, April 1, 2024."
He conveyed, the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 12 of 2024 regarding the Curriculum for Early Childhood Education, Basic Education Level, and Secondary Education Level requires schools to have at least one extracurricular activity. Law Number 12 of 2010 concerning the Scout Movement also requires educational units to have a front group.
Anindito asserts that the Ministry of Education and Culture does not have the idea to eliminate the Scouts. Permendikbudristek Number 12 of 2024 actually strengthens the legal regulations in emphasizing the importance of extracurricular activities in educational units.
"He explained that the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 12 of 2024 only revises the part of Scouting Education in the Block Model which requires camping, to become non-mandatory. Nevertheless, educational units are still allowed to organize camping activities, and student participation in extracurricular activities is also voluntary."

Anindito explains, Scouting Education is enriched with the education of the values of the scout movement in the formation of noble character, patriotic spirit, law-abiding, discipline, upholding the noble values of the nation, and having life skills. Therefore, he emphasizes that every student has the right to participate in Scouting Education.
Kemendikbudristek ensures that it will clarify the technical provisions regarding extracurricular activities of the Scout in the Implementation Guidelines for the Independent Curriculum, which will be published before the new academic year.
