Dream - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD strongly criticized the Supreme Court's decision regarding the age limit for regional leaders. According to him, the Supreme Court has exceeded its authority in that decision, so the decision can be called legally flawed. "Therefore, this is not only an ethical flaw, a moral flaw, but also a legal flaw," said Mahfud in a video on his Youtube channel, Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Mahfud reminds Article 17 of the Judicial Power Law which states that any decision that is morally flawed, let alone legally flawed, does not need to be implemented. Mahfud admitted that he was already nauseated when he heard the Supreme Court granted the lawsuit. For him, the decision shows that the legal system in Indonesia is already rotten.

Mahfud emphasized that there is no reason for the Supreme Court (MA) to grant the lawsuit regarding the age limit for the candidate for regional head. Because, the General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU) that has been made is in accordance with the Law on Regional Elections. However, he wonders why MA considers that PKPU to be in contradiction with the Law. Therefore, Mahfud understands the suspicions of the public who connect MA's decision with Kaesang, who is said to be advanced as a candidate for regional head.

"“It is a logical consequence of actions that have been carried out through the executive or judicial branches. Which, are flawed, violate heavy ethics, thus making the public suspicious,” he said. Mahfud assessed that public suspicion is indeed a logical consequence of actions that have been carried out through the executive or judicial branches."

"So, the emergence of the Supreme Court (MK), the Juvenile Court (MA), Support the Elder (MK), Support the Younger (MA), these various terms emerged as a consequence, becoming a subject of ridicule in public, so we are lazy to comment on things like that, let it rot on its own, it is already rotten, our way of justice is already rotten now," said Mahfud."If things like this continue, then just continue. Do whatever you want to do, while you still have the position to do it," he added."

"But at some point it can backfire when others use the same method, which is also to fight against the interests of those who like it," he said. Previously, the Supreme Court granted the Garuda Party's lawsuit regarding the addition of interpretations of the age of regional head candidates. This decision has sparked reactions from various circles."
