The mosque, located in the Rahat City area of Negev Bedouin, Israel, is estimated to have been built in the 7th century when Islam first began to spread in the Holy Land. Both halls of the building are identified as mosques due to their structural elements, namely the square space and the walls facing the direction of the Qibla in Mecca, which is the holy city of Islam.
Besides that, a semi-circular niche or mihrab is found along the middle part of the wall facing south.

Or was the settlement repopulated by semi-nomadic traders who may have brought the new religion from the Arabian Peninsula?
"Maybe a combination of both. All the questions seem to be open there on the site. Now our task is to try to gather information to understand what is happening," said Koga-Zehavi.
Other puzzles, the mosque is built quite far from some settlements. So researchers question the role of prayer space in everyday life. "We don't know the relationship between the congregation and the mosque. Maybe it is only used on Fridays?" said Kogan-Zehavi in surprise. (x)
