Dream - Have you ever heard our parents say the term "sawan" to refer to someone who is having seizures. Although more often associated with children, seizures can also be experienced by adults. The term "sawan" in Islam is associated with the term "Ummu Sibyan," which is a disease caused by the disturbance of a jinn named Ummu Sibyan. Seizures can come suddenly and cause both worry and fear. Those who see someone experiencing seizures are advised to increase their prayers to avoid disturbances from jinn and demons.

It should be noted, Ummu Sibyan often disturbs young children and pregnant women. This disturbance occurs when the Maghrib call to prayer is heard. This is the reason why Muslims are asked to keep their children or wives from going out of the house when night falls.

In a hadith narrated by Jabir, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "When the night starts to darken or when the night has arrived (at Maghrib time), then restrain your children (from going out of the house), because at that time the devils are roaming." It is also important to know that epilepsy can be dangerous to the physical and mental health of adults.

From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, harmful thing, and every evil eye." Then he would say: "I seek refuge in them for you, with the perfect hearing and perfect sight."

"Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him sought protection for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (by saying) 'I seek refuge for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, harmful creature, and evil eye.' Then he said, 'Indeed, your father (Prophet Ibrahim) sought protection for Isma'il and Ishaq with those words.'"

"Inna zayyannas-samā`ad-dunyā bizīnatinil-kawākib" means "Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with stars," and "Wa ḥafiẓan min kulli shayṭānin mārid" means "And We have protected it from every rebellious devil."

Epilepsy can come suddenly and cause worry.
