The Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, commented on the increasing number of Rohingya refugees in Aceh. Prabowo stated that this issue involves the whole world and must be addressed through a comprehensive approach.
"So the Rohingya issue is a global issue, involving several countries, of course, Indonesia must approach it with an integralistic attitude and approach. We coordinate with international agencies, with the UN and so on," said Prabowo in Banda Aceh, Tuesday (26/12/2023)."
However, Prabowo emphasized that in resolving this issue, national interests and the welfare of the Indonesian people must be the top priority. According to the presidential candidate number 2, it is unfair to only provide assistance to Rohingya refugees without considering the hardships faced by the Indonesian people.
"Many of our people are still living in difficult conditions, so it is not quite fair if we have to accept all those refugees as our burden, even though from a humanitarian perspective, we also have a sense of solidarity and a desire to help, and so on," he said.
Prabowo apologizes for not visiting Aceh after the 2019 Presidential Election.
"Previously, Presidential candidate number two, Prabowo Subianto, expressed an apology to the people of Aceh for not being able to visit the region for five years after the 2019 Presidential Election."
"Although Prabowo gained full support from Aceh in the election, he stated that losing in the 2019 Presidential Election made it financially difficult for him to visit Aceh. 'Why?
