Moeldoko and AHY are two opposing figures as a result of the internal turmoil within the Democratic Party. Moeldoko was once elected as the chairman of the Democratic Party through an Extraordinary Congress (KLB) of the Democratic Party on March 5, 2021.

KLB was initiated by several Democratic politicians who disagreed with AHY's leadership. Some figures behind the KLB were Marzuki Alie and Jhoni Allen. The conflict escalated and entered the legal realm. However, the Supreme Court (MA) rejected Moeldoko's cassation regarding the management of the Democratic Party on October 3, 2022. Although Moeldoko filed for a judicial review (PK), MA once again rejected it on August 10, 2023.
