Dream - The archaeologists have discovered an ancient tomb that holds an extraordinary collection of gold artifacts. The collection of artifacts, made of genuine gold, contains invaluable history and culture.
The tomb was found at the El Caño archaeological site in the country of Panama, Central America, as announced by the Ministry of Culture of the country in a press release. This site is a 'field' for the necropolis - or large cemetery - of the Gran Coclé culture that flourished in pre-Hispanic times.
"Civilization of Thousands of Years Old"
The ancient tomb is estimated to have been built around 700 AD before being abandoned in 1000 AD. The Gran Coclé culture itself existed from around 200 BC to 1550 AD, according to the University of South Florida.
Gran Coclé is known for its distinctive artistic style, including the creation of objects made of gold. These gold objects are made with great artistry and represent the majority of archaeological artifacts found in the province of Coclé, Panama.
Apart from objects made of gold, archaeologists also found a number of ceramic artifacts inside ancient tombs. The objects made of gold include two bead belts in the shape of balls, four bracelets, and two earrings in the shape of human figures (male and female).
In addition, they also found crocodile-shaped earrings, five earrings made of sperm whale teeth with gold casing.
The ancient artifacts found in the tomb are a bell and a set of round-shaped gold plates. Researchers also found other artifacts, namely an object made of dog teeth and a set of bone flutes.
Linette Montenegro, National Director of Cultural Heritage from the Ministry of Culture, stated that the collection of gold artifacts has a historical and cultural value that is 'priceless'.
"Allegedly Noble Tomb"
Meanwhile, Julia Mayo, Director of the El Caño Foundation, suspects that the tomb belongs to an adult male with a high social status, possibly a nobleman. The body of the man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was buried together with the artifacts made of gold and ceramics. The archaeological project led by Mayo has been conducting excavations at the Gran Coclé site since 2008.
In the excavation, archaeologists also found the body of another person who may have been sacrificed and buried together with the ruler to accompany them to the afterlife.
Until now, the excavation of graves dating back to around 750-800 AD has not been completed.
"The Strange Position of the Body"
Therefore, it is not known exactly how many bodies were buried there. Interestingly, the nobles at the Gran Coclé site were buried in a face-down position on top of a woman.
