But I asked him about evil, because I was afraid that evil would befall me. So I asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! We were once in ignorance and evil, so Allah sent down this goodness (religion) to us. Is it possible that evil will appear again after this goodness?' He answered: 'Yes.'"

Then I asked again, "Will there be more goodness after that?" He answered, "Yes, but there will be flaws! I asked, "What are the flaws?" He said, "A group will emerge who will practice the Sunnah other than my Sunnah, and they will lead the people without my guidance, you will recognize them but you will deny them."

I asked again, "Will there be more evil after that?" He answered, "Yes. They are the people who call towards the Hellfire, whoever responds to their call will be thrown into that Hellfire." So I asked again, "O Messenger of Allah! Show us their characteristics." He replied, "Their skin is like our skin and they speak our language."

I asked again, "O Messenger of Allah, what is your guidance if I encounter such a situation?" He replied, "Remain with the congregation of the Muslims and their leader (imam)." I asked again, "What if there is no congregation and leader?" He answered, "Leave all groups even if you have to bite the roots of a tree until death comes to you, and you remain steadfast." (Narrated by Muslim)
