"The Law of Women's I'tikaf in the Mosque and Permissible Actions, Muslimah Must Know!"
The ability of a wife to observe 'itikaf has certain conditions that she must fulfill.
The ability of a wife to observe 'itikaf has certain conditions that she must fulfill.
Dream - In the last ten days of the month of Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to perform i'tikaf or stay in the mosque. This is usually done collectively by Muslims heading to their chosen mosque. Therefore, in these last ten days of Ramadan, the mosque will appear crowded with Muslims worshiping. This is as explained in a hadith from Ibn Umar ra: "The Prophet saw used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan." (HR. Bukhari, Muslim, and Ashabus Sunan)
Then, are women allowed to perform i'tikaf in the mosque? Well, this may be a question for some Muslim women, especially those who want to seek rewards in the last ten days of Ramadan.
The following is an explanation of the law regarding women who perform i'tikaf in the mosque, as summarized by Dream through various sources.
Explained in the book Al-Fiqh 'Ala Al-Madzahib, by Sheikh Abdurraman Al-Juzairi, that the ruling on i'tikaf is highly recommended.
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The law applies both during the month of Ramadan and in other months. However, it is more preferable to be done during the last ten days of Ramadan. The law of i'tikaf is recommended for both men and women. All scholars also agree that i'tikaf which is not dedicated is highly recommended. However, the law of i'tikaf can become obligatory if dedicated by someone."
"I'tikaf can be done by women as Prophet Muhammad allowed his wife to perform i'tikaf."
This is explained in the following hadith: "Aisha ra said when Rasulullah conveyed about performing i'tikaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan, she immediately asked for permission to follow him in i'tikaf. Rasulullah SAW then granted her permission." Furthermore, it is also explained in the following hadith: "Rasulullah Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam always performed i'tikaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan until he passed away. After his departure, his wives also performed i'tikaf." (HR. Al-Bukhari no. 2026 and Muslim no. 1172)
Then, Yahya bin Said said: "Then 'Aisyah asked for permission to perform i'tikaf with him, so he allowed her." (HR Bukhari number 2041)In the month of Ramadan, 'Aisyah asked permission from Prophet Muhammad to perform i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan until his death. This is explained in the following hadith: "Then his wives continued to perform i'tikaf after his departure." (HR Bukhari number 2026 and Muslim number 1172)
Through the explanation above, it can be known that women are allowed to perform i'tikaf just like what the wives of the Prophet saw did. However, with the condition that she obtains permission from her husband.
The following is a list of things allowed for women when performing i'tikaf in the mosque:
Besides that, women who are performing 'itiqaf should be in a closed space. Recognizing that the mosque is a public place that can be visited by anyone, including men. Therefore, it is better for men and non-mahram women not to see each other. In fact, during the time of the Prophet, the Prophet's wives were provided with special chambers inside the mosque. So that they are more protected.
Women who are in i'tikaf are allowed to leave if it is necessary. Amrah narrated, "When 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was in i'tikaf, she would go home if there was a need, then visit the sick for a while to inquire about their condition. She would do this while walking without stopping." (Mushannaf Abdurrazzaq (no. 8055) with an authentic chain of narration) If a woman leaves without a clear need, then her i'tikaf is invalidated.
Women who are in i'tikaf are allowed to touch their husbands as long as it is not accompanied by desire. However, they are not allowed to have sexual intercourse. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would lean his head towards me when he was in the mosque (during i'tikaf), and I would comb his hair, even though I was menstruating at that time." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari, no. 2029)
Women who are experiencing istihadah are allowed to perform i'tikaf with the condition that they can maintain cleanliness in the mosque. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "One of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who was experiencing istihadah joined him in i'tikaf. She could see the red and yellow color coming out of her, so sometimes we would place a container underneath her when she was praying." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari, no. 2037, and Muslim, no. 2476)
Another thing that is allowed for women who are in i'tikaf is that they are allowed to be proposed to or married. However, what is prohibited is engaging in sexual relations between husband and wife.
I'tikaf is a special practice of staying in the mosque with specific intentions and procedures.
