Dream - Mukarromah (25), a resident of Panpajung Village, Modung, Bangkalan, East Java, is suspected of experiencing malpractice in childbirth resulting in the baby's head being left in her uterus. In the circulating video, Mukarromah admitted that at the time, she wanted to give birth earlier because her baby was in a breech position.

"I went to the village midwife (near my house). Then, the village midwife told me to get a referral to the community health center. Finally, I went directly to the community health center," explained Mukarromah. When she arrived at the community health center, she requested to be referred to a hospital in Bangkalan. The reason was that she wanted to give birth through surgery."

"Then he (the health worker) called the midwife. Then the midwife finally came and said the opening was four," she said. "Then I was told to push again but I couldn't bear it and finally broke. What broke? The body, the head inside. It was pulled by the midwife. I don't know if it was cut or not, I don't know, but it was pulled," she added.

Mukarromah once again asked the health center to refer her to Bangkalan hospital, with the intention of delivering her baby's head that was still stuck in the uterus. Meanwhile, Head of the Health Office of Bangkalan, Nur Chotibah, said that the incident began when Mukarromah came to Kedungdung Health Center with a 45-week pregnancy.

"So the estimated due date is February 2nd. The patient came to the health center on March 5th, so the gestational age is already 45 weeks and more than 4 weeks past the estimated due date," said Nur Chotibah, quoted from Berita Jatim, Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Upon arriving at the health center, she continued, the patient's blood pressure was high, reaching 180. This caused the baby in the womb to experience poisoning from the mother's body."

Chotibah added, his party also conducted an audit together with the IUFD (Intrauterine Fetal Death) team and the audit results stated that the baby died approximately 7 to 10 days before the patient arrived at the Kedungdung Health Center on March 5, 2024. "The condition of the baby died in the womb for about 10 days," he explained.

According to Nur Chotibah, the staff of the Kedungdung Community Health Center has tried to refer the patient to a hospital in Bangkalan. However, before being referred, the patient experienced an opening and the baby, who was in a breech position, came out through the birth canal. "The baby's buttocks came out, so the staff provided assistance to the patient and before that, it was also conveyed that the baby no longer had a heartbeat," she said.

Not only that, the condition of a baby who has experienced maceration or blistering makes the baby's body weak and as a result, the part of the baby's head that is breech is severed and left behind in the womb. "The baby's body also starts to blister or macerate, causing the baby's head to be left behind in the womb," said Nur Chotibah.
