Dream - The journey of human life in this world is not easy. Disturbances will come from anywhere, especially from a rebellious creature of Allah SWT named Iblis. He will whisper evil to humans at any moment. That is why we must seek refuge in the Creator from all the misleading temptations of the devil. The evil that occurs in the world can be caused by the intervention of the devil's whispers.
Then many people think, if the devil is so evil, why doesn't Allah SWT just destroy him? Of course, Allah SWT did not create this creature without a purpose. Once upon a time, Prophet Sulaiman AS asked Allah to capture the devil and imprison him. The Prophet hoped that the absence of the devil would make human beings live more peaceful and sinless lives. However, what happened afterwards made Prophet Sulaiman release the creature again. What would the world be like without the devil and demons?
The story is taken from the book "Stories of Allah" by Ahmad Mir Khalaf Zadeh & Qasim Mir Khalaf Zadeh. In one narrative, it is told how Prophet Sulaiman (AS) had the power to subdue humans, jinn, and animals. In the book, there is a narrative where Prophet Sulaiman (AS) prayed to Allah to be allowed to imprison Satan. "Oh Allah, You have subjected to me humans, jinn, wild animals, birds, and angels. Oh Allah, I want to capture and imprison Satan, chaining and binding him, so that humans no longer commit sins and transgressions."
However, this request is not immediately granted by the Creator. Allah Ta'alaa then revealed to Prophet Sulaiman, that it is not good if the devil is captured or destroyed, "O Sulaiman, it is not good if the devil is captured." But Prophet Sulaiman still pleaded to Allah SWT to imprison the devil. "O Allah, the existence of this cursed creature has no goodness in it."
Allah said, "If the devil is captured, many of the tasks of humans will be abandoned." Prophet Sulaiman said, "O Allah, I want to capture this cursed creature for only a few days." Then Allah allowed Prophet Sulaiman to capture the devil and imprison him.
The next day, Prophet Sulaiman sent his workers to sell bags in the market. However, when they arrived at the market, something unusual happened. The market was empty with no inhabitants. All the merchants closed their stalls. The workers then informed Prophet Sulaiman about this. Prophet Sulaiman asked, "What has happened?" The workers replied, "We do not know." That night, Prophet Sulaiman did not eat and only drank water. The next day, Prophet's followers returned to the market to sell bags. But the same thing happened again. The market was empty and uninhabited.
It turns out, after being investigated, humans prefer to close the market. They go to the mosque and head to the cemetery to remember death, cry and mourn. They are busy preparing provisions for the afterlife without caring about worldly beauty anymore. This certainly makes the Prophet wonder. "What is happening?" he thought. Prophet Sulaiman then asked Allah SWT about this. Why don't people work to earn a living?
Then, Allah revealed to Prophet Sulaiman, "O Sulaiman, you have captured that devil, so as a consequence, humans have lost their enthusiasm to work and seek livelihood. Didn't I tell you before that capturing the devil does not bring any good?"
Hearing Allah's answer, Prophet Solomon then released Satan and his army. And indeed, the next day the market became busy again. People became enthusiastic to work and seek worldly possessions to fulfill their needs. So, do not have negative assumptions towards Allah's creation, even though we often consider Satan and demons as evil creatures causing mischief. Because Allah knows best what He has created.
