Dream - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released a report on the number of foreign tourists (Wisman) visiting Indonesia from January to May 2024. During that period, BPS recorded a 23.78 percent increase in Wisman visits compared to the 2023 period.
The increase in visits was recorded at the Ngurah Rai airport (Bali) and Soekarno-Hatta (Banten) airports. Both entrances for foreign tourists increased by 27.74 percent and 35.53 percent, respectively.
As for the visit of foreign tourists in May 2024, it reached 1.15 million visits. The number experienced an increase of 20.11 percent compared to the same month last year (year on year/yoy).
Plt Secretary General of BPS, Imam Machdi, quoted from Merdeka.com, Monday, July 1, 2024.
In detail, foreign tourists who visited Indonesia in May 2024 were dominated by foreign tourists from Malaysia (17.47 percent). Followed by Australia (11.98 percent), and Singapore (9.69 percent).
As for the Occupancy Rate (TPK) in star hotels in May 2024 reached 54.03 percent. This figure experienced a YoY increase of 5.01 points and a MoM increase of 6.89 points. Then BPS recorded the TPK of non-star hotels in May 2024 reached 27.11 percent, an increase of 2.87 points (YoY), and experienced an increase of 0.90 points (MoM). Meanwhile, the average length of stay for guests in star hotels did not change compared to May 2023, which is 1.62 nights.
"Previously, BPS revealed that the status of 17 international airports was revoked, which turned out to only serve 169 foreign tourists throughout 2023. That number is less than one percent of the total number of foreign tourists to Indonesia."
Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated that in 2023, the number of foreign tourists at the 17 airports whose international status is revoked will only amount to 169 foreign tourist visits. Amalia predicts that if this number is made into a percentage proportion of the total number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia, the obtained figure is less than one percent.
"Approximately, if we calculate the percentage, it is 0.0021 percent of the total foreign tourist visits through other main air gates in that year," said Amalia quoted from Liputan6.com. In addition, if we look at the number of domestic tourists traveling abroad through those 17 airports, it is only 61,106 trips. "Or approximately only 1.06 percent of the total domestic tourist trips," she said.
