8 Tricks for Cooking Octopus, Free from Fishy Smell and with a Soft Texture

Dream - Octopus is a seafood dish that is highly favored due to its savory taste and chewy texture. It is usually mixed with noodles, grilled, or made into a spicy seafood stir-fry menu. Special tricks are needed to prepare it.

1. Choose Fresh Octopus

Make sure the octopus that Sahabat Dream buys is still fresh. The characteristics of fresh octopus are not having an excessive fishy smell and having a chewy texture. This will make the cleaning process easier.

2. Wash with Cold Water

Use cold water to wash the octopus. Gently rinse under running cold water to remove dirt and mucus residue on the surface of the octopus. Make sure all parts are well rinsed with water.

3. Separate the Head from the Body

Separate the octopus squid head from its body using a sharp knife. Place the squid on a cutting board and cut right below the eyes to separate the head from the body. Discard the head if not needed and cut the legs one by one.

Check the severed head, turn it over and find the ink pouch. Press the bottom part of the head to extract the ink pouch and other internal organs. Dispose of the part along with its contents.

5. Clean the Tentacle Section

Soak the octopus in hot water for a few seconds to facilitate the peeling of its skin. Pull the skin starting from the head towards the tentacles until all the skin is peeled off properly. This process also makes the octopus more tender and reduces the fishy smell.

               

8. Rinse Again with Cold Water
