Dream - President Joko Widodo, who opened the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024 at JI Expo Kemayoran on Thursday, February 15, 2024, took the time to tour hundreds of automotive manufacturers' booths showcasing their vehicles.
Not only reviewing, the number one person in Indonesia even tried out several latest vehicle units on display. Jokowi is known to have reviewed booths from Mitsubishi, Wuling, Toyota, and other vehicle brands.
After the visit, Jokowi, who was attending an interview with the media crew, was asked about the car he was targeting at the IIMS 2024 event. "I already have many cars at the palace," Jokowi joked with the journalists on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
"At the same time, Jokowi also explained his desire to make electric vehicles the future of the automotive industry. The opportunity exists because Indonesia has the raw material for electric vehicles, namely nickel."
"Many electric cars are displayed, I think this is indeed the future of the Indonesian automotive industry, because we have nickel and other raw materials," he said.
Jokowi also encourages electric vehicle manufacturers to take advantage of electric vehicle incentives. According to him, this will make global electric vehicle manufacturers open factories in Indonesia.
"I believe this will boost sales and, on the other hand, encourage subsidies for existing electric vehicle (EV) factories in Indonesia," said Jokowi. Jokowi added that currently there are no additional incentives related to electric vehicles. However, the government will continue to encourage incentives for reducing VAT."
With this incentive strategy, according to the man who once served as the Governor of DKI, Indonesia can compete with other countries, if indeed all ecosystems are already available in the homeland. "If all the content is ready, the battery is ready. We can compete with other countries," he said.
Meanwhile, Dyandra Promosindo, as the event organizer, expressed optimism in achieving the transaction target of up to Rp5.3 Trillion.
"With various interesting programs and surprises that we have prepared, we strive to maximize not wasting the great purpose of hundreds of stakeholders joining IIMS 2024, namely the progress of the automotive industry in the homeland," said President Director Dyandra Promosindo Daswar Marpaung, firmly stated Daswar."
