Dream - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is implementing restrictions on purchasing rice in modern retail stores. Head of Bapanas, Arief Prasetyo Adi, stated that this restriction is aimed at ensuring that the public can obtain rice evenly.
According to him, the purchase of rice is limited to a maximum of 2 packages of 5 kilograms (kg) in modern retail stores such as Alfamart, Indomaret, and Superindo, which has been implemented since last October.
"The purchase limit has been implemented since last year, even a few months ago. Why is it limited to 2 packs totaling 10 kilograms (kg)? It is to ensure equal distribution. If each household has 5-10 kg of rice, that is certainly sufficient."

Since October 2023, restrictions on rice purchases in retail markets have been implemented, especially on rice purchases under the Supply and Food Price Stabilization Program (SPHP).
The goal is to encourage the community to shop wisely according to their needs and ensure that the community as a whole does not excessively purchase rice beyond normal needs.
Arief said the government will release rice to the market, in accordance with the order from President Jokowi who responded to the expensive price of rice at the consumer level.
"For that reason, the President has instructed everyone to convert everything to 5 kg of rice and immediately send it to traditional markets and modern retail markets. I have also been instructed to tidy up this Cipinang area because there is a lot of stock here but very little in modern retail markets. So, all elements of the national rice ecosystem, starting from rice millers, traders including retailers, state-owned enterprises, and regional-owned enterprises, we will produce in 5 kg, we will accelerate," he explained."
