Dream - Chairman of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo, speaks up about the scarcity of rice and the continuous increase in its price.
"He emphasized that the scarcity of rice in retail markets is not caused by the distribution of food aid spread by President Jokowi."
"Bansos has nothing to do with the price of rice. But this is a presence in the country, it's not bansos but my food assistance, let me correct it. The government has indeed suspended rice food assistance from 8-14 February as a tribute to this year's elections. The food assistance does not affect the rice scarcity," said Arief as quoted from Liputan6.com, Monday, February 12, 2024.
Arief added, rice supply is targeted to return to abundance in March 2024. So that prices can decrease and be at a normal level.
"Specifically for rice, we hope that our production in March 2024 will be in accordance with the KSA BPS, which is above 3.5 million tons. We hope that the price of rice in March can decrease a little,""

Arief conveyed that he will ensure the distribution of rice in modern and traditional markets is not hindered. He will coordinate with retailers regarding the increase in rice prices due to scarcity.
"So allow us to coordinate now with all the existing retailers. This morning, I and my colleagues from Bulog and retailers discussed all of this for the sake of retail market."
"ujar Ketua Bapanas." translates to "said the Chairman of Bapanas."
