Dream - The postponement of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) office relocation in the Capital of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan in July 2024, has also caught the attention of foreign media. Jokowi is unable to move to IKN because several facilities are not yet ready.
"If the water is ready, the electricity is ready, the place is ready, we will move there,"
words from Jokowi to journalists some time ago.
"Dream.co.id."
Media Malaysia The Star also discussed the cancellation of Jokowi's move to IKN. With an article titled "Jokowi delays relocation to Nusantara, will move there ‘once the place is ready'" published on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, The Star assessed that Jokowi failed to meet the target for completing the construction.
"President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has decided to postpone his plan to work from the future capital of Nusantara in East Kalimantan after major infrastructure projects, such as water and electricity supply, have so far failed to meet the July deadline."
write The Star.
Media Singapore, Channel News Asia also highlighted the delay in the development of IKN. With its article titled "Jokowi could delay move to Nusantara; lack of water and electricity mark slow progress in Indonesia's new capital".
CNA mentioned that Jokowi previously stated his confidence in being able to work from his new office in East Kalimantan in early July. However, the infrastructure has not been completed several weeks before the celebration of Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17, 2024.
"The US$32 billion project has struggled to attract investors and experienced delays, with the main infrastructure still unfinished a few weeks before the celebration of Indonesian Independence Day on August 17th."
write CNA.
"Previously, the Minister of Public Works and People's Housing (PUPR) and Acting Head of IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, responded to the news that Jokowi canceled his office at IKN in July."
Basuki conveyed, currently the process of supporting facilities and infrastructure is still ongoing, starting from electricity to water. "Because I have been saying since mid-July that water will come in, electricity has already come in. Earlier, I just gathered energy and communication, Telkom and PLN, just reported that 10 Megawatts is already okay. Now, the next 40 Megawatts are being built, but the 10 Megawatts are from PLTS," said Basuki as quoted from Liputan6.com.
He said, so far Jokowi has never stated that the plan to have an office at IKN in July 2024 is canceled. Therefore, he asked not to jump to conclusions hastily, because it is still early in July. "The media is happy with sensationalism. Again, July lasts until the 31st," he said.
