Dream - The government plans to temporarily suspend the distribution of social assistance (bansos) in the form of rice during the quiet period until the general election (Pemilu), which is from February 11 to 14, 2024. The Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, as the party responsible for distributing this food aid, will inform again about the distribution decision because the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has also made distribution plans to Indonesia.

Arief said, the cessation of food aid before the calm period and the voting for the 2024 General Election also simultaneously affirm that there is no politicization of food aid.

To be noted, the distribution of this rice food assistance has been carried out since early 2023, and it will be intensified ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election. The distribution of 10 kg of rice social assistance per month began in January 2024.
Social assistance is distributed to 22 million KPMs (Recipients of Basic Food Assistance) throughout Indonesia based on data from the Pensasaran Percepatan Penghapusan Kemiskinan Ekstrem (P3KE) of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK). So far, according to Arief, this rice food aid has been very effective in preventing price increases due to the decrease in rice production.
He emphasized that rice food assistance has been planned well in advance and is highly needed by low-income communities.
