Dream - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia's economic growth throughout 2023 to grow by 5.05 percent. This growth is lower compared to 2022, which experienced a growth of 5.31 percent. From this achievement, BPS revealed that Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in 2023 reached Rp75.0 million or US$4,919.7.
PDB 2023 increased from 2022, reaching Rp71.0 million or US$4,783.9. Meanwhile, the GDP at current prices reached Rp20,892.4 trillion.
From the production side, BPS recorded the highest growth occurring in the Transportation and Warehousing Field at 13.96 percent.
"While from the expenditure side, the highest growth was achieved by the Household Serving Nonprofit Institution Consumption Expenditure (PK-LNPRT) at 9.83 percent. 'During the year 2023, the Indonesian economy is still continuing to grow spatially,' wrote BPS."
As for looking at economic growth based on provinces. The highest growth occurred in Maluku and Papua (6.94 percent), Sulawesi (6.37 percent), and Kalimantan (5.43 percent).
Plt. Head of the Central Statistics Agency Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that Indonesia's economic growth achievement in 2023 is relatively better compared to several trading partner countries during the same period.
Even the achievement is higher than the economic growth of the United States (US) in 2023, which was reported to only grow by 2.5 percent YoY. Meanwhile, the economy of Japan only grew by 2.0 percent YoY.
However, Indonesia's economic growth in 2023 still lags behind China, which recorded an economic growth of 5.2 percent.
"Indonesia is still lagging behind India, which recorded a higher economic growth of 6.3 percent in 2023."
