Dream - Passwords have become a part of human life for security purposes. Passwords store numbers and letters that must be kept confidential. However, cybersecurity experts from Redcentric have discovered some very concerning data regarding how many people do not properly protect their passwords.
Research on 2,000 people in England found that 20 percent of them only have one or two passwords for all their online logins.
This is considered very worrying because if a hacker or hacker gets hold of the code, they can easily gain access to several accounts.
"The fact that so many people reuse the same password on multiple accounts/services is very concerning,"
clearly Head of Cyber Security at Redcentric, Tom Holloway.
Many of the community do not change their passwords frequently enough. This study also found that 77 percent of them do not manage their passwords and only 23 percent are concerned about saving their passwords in the browser.
"The concern is that if their credentials for one site are hacked, those credentials can be used to access various password-protected services relatively easily," Tom continued. "I will encourage people to review all their passwords and consider how easy those passwords are to guess. Updating and installing a password manager only takes a few minutes but can save a lot of money, stress, and time in the long run," explained Tom.
Ethical hacker at NEBRC, Joe Cockcroft, who is trained in cybercriminal activities, also revealed the most frequently used passwords by the public and easily guessed by hackers. "Using identifiable information, such as favorite football team, family members' names, or your city of residence, can make passwords easier to determine. Although this information may be easy to remember, it can also be easily discovered by threat actors after spending some time exploring your social media profile," he explained.
The most commonly used and easily guessed password by hackers.
1. Password (kata sandi) - cracked in less than 1 second 2. 123456 - cracked in less than 1 second 3. 123456789 - cracked in less than 1 second 4. Guest (tamu) - cracked in 10 seconds 5. Qwerty - cracked in less than 1 second
The following are some suggestions from Joe Cockcroft on how to safely create passwords. Cockcroft says, make sure the password used is complex enough and cannot be guessed. The length of the password also plays a big role in how easily it can be hacked. Short passwords with a mix of numbers, symbols, and letters will be easier to crack than long passwords consisting only of letters and spaces.
