Exciting, Shopping in Japan and Hong Kong Made Easier with QRIS

Dream - Shopping abroad is now easier. This is because the Indonesian government will expand the network of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system to East Asia, targeting Japan and Hong Kong.

"We are currently talking to the Philippines and we are currently talking to ASEAN Plus to Japan and to Hong Kong,"

The text translates to: "The words of Legacy Lead of ASEAN QR Code ASEAN BAC Pandu Sjahrir at the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit in Jakarta quoted from Liputan6.com, Tuesday, September 5, 2023."

Through this International QRIS, it is hoped that transactions will become easier. Travelers do not need to bother making payments by exchanging cash with the destination country. Pandu said that the expansion plan is in line with the Tamasek report. Where the digital needs in ASEAN are increasing, therefore there is a need for development in digital payments. "Yesterday maybe you heard Tamasek talking about digital needs in ASEAN, especially through payment, this is all in line," he said.

"Country that has Implemented QRIS"

"Previously, the Indonesian government has expanded to five countries in ASEAN, namely Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam. QRIS between countries in Thailand and Malaysia has been implemented. Meanwhile, Singapore is currently in the testing phase, while the Philippines and Vietnam are already in the exploration stage."

"QRIS, in my opinion, is something good, especially since it has just started launching in Singapore. We are already present in Malaysia and Thailand as well. So, in my opinion, it is good. There will be more cross-border transactions, and people can visit all these countries using mobile payment, which is positive."

"Benefits of International QRIS"

As information, quoted from the Bank Indonesia website, QRIS antarnegara is a cross-border payment system based on QR codes that can be used for cross-border transactions.

With cross-border QRIS, cross-border transactions no longer need to convert or exchange currencies again when shopping in the visited country, simply by scanning the QR code.
