"Dream - The rupiah currency is one of the symbols of national sovereignty that must be respected and proud by all Indonesian citizens. Therefore, defacing or damaging the rupiah can be subject to criminal sanctions of up to Rp1 billion, you know."
"Rules for Maintaining Rupiah"
The following translation preserves the HTML tags: "The sanction is regulated in Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency. However, not many people are aware of this regulation."
However, it turns out that there are still individuals who do not appreciate the Rupiah. Like the money received by a student of SMK Gadjah Mada Bandar Lampung, Difkha. She found her Rupiah money damaged.
"When I found my Rupiah change all scribbled on, of course, I was disappointed and wondered if it could still be used? Then, when I learned about the destruction of Rupiah which could lead to criminal threats, of course, I agree!" said Difkha as quoted in the Instagram post @bank_indonesia."
Then what sanctions can be accepted for people who damage the Rupiah? Bank Indonesia explains, in Article 25 of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency, this regulation prohibits anyone from damaging, cutting, destroying, and altering the Rupiah.
"Everyone is prohibited from damaging, cutting, destroying, and/or altering the Rupiah with the intention of demeaning the honor of the Rupiah as a symbol of the country," stated in Article 25."
Referring to Article 35, it is stated that those who violate the rules will be subject to a maximum prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.
