Dream - Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance now limits the personal belongings of passengers traveling from abroad. Customs and Excise determines that there are five types of restricted items.
This restriction is an implementation of the Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 36 of 2023 regarding Import Policies and Regulations. This rule has been in effect since March 10, 2024.
One of the regulations gives authority to Customs to rearrange import policies by shifting import supervision of certain commodity goods from Post-Border to Border.
Head of the KPU BC Type C Soekarno-Hatta, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo in his official statement, quoted from Merdeka.com, Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
In the aforementioned regulation, Customs limits the importation of goods brought by airplane passengers into the country. The goods that are restricted for each passenger include:
1. Footwear is limited to 2 pcs per passenger. 2. Bags are limited to 2 pcs per passenger. 3. Textile goods are limited to 5 pcs per passenger. 4. 5 units of electronic goods with a total FOB value of US$1,500 or approximately Rp23.23 million. 5. Mobile phones or cell phones and tablet computers are limited to a maximum of 2 pcs per passenger per year.

"He also urges the public who are traveling abroad to pay attention to Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023. Considering that this regulation also governs the belongings of passengers entering the country without obtaining import permits. 'This regulation also stipulates the limit on the quantity of certain commodities allowed to be brought into the country without import permits from the Ministry of Trade,' said Gatot."
"Moreover, the restricted commodity is consumable onion which is often used by the community. 'This commodity is commonly brought by passengers when returning to Indonesia as a consumable item or souvenir for family and relatives,' Gatot said, concluding."
