Dream - Singapore seems to be a new magnet for foreign workers who want to improve their economy. The opportunity arises after the neighboring country, Indonesia, reported that it will raise the minimum wage for foreign workers.
According to Instagram @undercover.id, Singapore will increase the minimum wage for foreign workers to around Rp65 million per month. This policy will be effective from January 1, 2025, replacing the previous minimum wage of around Rp58 million per month.
However, there are certain conditions for foreign workers if they want to receive a minimum wage increase of Rp7 million.
Salary increases are only given to foreign workers who meet the requirements for a work permit, known as Employment Pass (EP). Another requirement is that this salary increase will apply to new job applicants starting from 2025. Additionally, this salary increase will be given to those who renew their contracts starting from 2026.
With the EP, foreign professionals, managers, and executives will have the opportunity to work in Singapore. According to Singapore's Minister of Manpower, Tan See-leng, the eligible EP salary will also increase with age.
For workers in the financial services sector in Singapore, they will receive a salary of around 6,200 Singapore dollars per month next year. This amount has increased from the salary of 5,500 Singapore dollars per month received by foreign workers this year.
If converted into Rupiah currency, the salary of foreign workers in the financial field will increase to Rp72 million per month, from Rp64 million per month this year.
"While foreign workers in their mid-40s will receive a salary of around 10,700 Singapore dollars, equivalent to approximately 125 million Indonesian Rupiah per month. Within the same age range, foreign workers in the financial services sector will receive an income of around 11,800 Singapore dollars or approximately 137 million Indonesian Rupiah per month."
News about the increase in salaries of foreign workers on Instagram @undercover.id immediately drew various comments from netizens. Most netizens compare the minimum wage increase in Singapore with the tax increase in Indonesia. There are also many who are interested in looking for job vacancies in order to become foreign workers in Singapore.
"In Singapore, the price of rice is cheaper and the salary is higher. In our country, taxes are even increasing. 😂" "If in Wakanda, next year taxes increase to 12%, the price of goods increase, only the salary doesn't increase." "Is there any job vacancy information there?" "I want to move. 😂" "January 1, 2025, Singapore: Salary Increase, Indonesia: VAT increases to 12%."
